Birmingham, Ala.— NaphCare, Inc., a leading correctional healthcare company, was awarded a multi-year contract by the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners to provide comprehensive health care services in the Manatee County Jail in the Tampa Bay region of Florida, commencing January 1, 2019. The Manatee County Jail houses approximately 1,000 inmates daily.
“Our selection of NaphCare means we will be able to provide management of health needs using a robust technology-informed system and a strong emphasis on substance use and mental health needs,” said Joshua Barnett, Health Care Services Manager, Community Services Division, Department of Neighborhood Services, Manatee County Government. “We look forward to partnering with the new medical care team to prepare those incarcerated for a safe and healthy transition back to their community.”
Under the contract, NaphCare is responsible for providing medical and mental health care to all inmates at the jail. Correctional facilities nationwide have experienced disproportionate increases in the number of people incarcerated with mental health and substance abuse disorders. NaphCare is on a mission to improve the care of people suffering from mental health issues and opioid withdrawal in America’s jails, partnering with community clinics and behavioral health providers, such as in Manatee County.
“We have hit the ground running in Manatee County, ensuring a seamless transition to provide proactive, patient-focused care,” said Cornelius Henderson, Senior Vice President, Jail Operations, NaphCare. “During transitions in correctional facilities, continuity of care is extremely important, particularly with the high level of mental health and substance abuse issues. Thanks to the cooperation and hard work by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and County Administration, NaphCare has been able to quickly implement our protocols to ensure the highest quality of care for our patients, which is our primary concern.”
NaphCare provides comprehensive health care services in 27 county and municipal correctional facilities across the country. The partnership with Manatee County is the company’s second contract in the state of Florida, including a contract with Hillsborough County Jail in Tampa.
