One Team, One Mission, One NaphCare: A Conversation with Jennifer Miller, Chief of Human Resources

April 25, 2025

NaphCare is pleased to share a conversation with Jennifer Miller, our Chief of Human Resources. As the head of Human Resources, Jennifer's first priority is to take care of our people. She guides our team of HR professionals, drawing on her more than 20 years of experience in employee relations, regulatory compliance, recruitment and retention. With this knowledge and experience, Jennifer develops people-first strategies that make NaphCare an employer of choice across the country and one of Birmingham’s best places to work

In our conversation, Jennifer spoke about NaphCare’s company culture and shared her passion for our most valued resource—our people.

Tell me about your role at NaphCare and how you view company culture within your role.

As Chief of Human Resources, company culture is imperative to recruiting and retaining our most valuable asset – our employees. Bringing on new sites and welcoming new employees to the team are always some of my favorite moments.

What are 3 key ingredients for great company culture?

Communication, transparency and a collaborative environment.

Why is a positive culture important in a workplace?

The average adult will spend 90,000 hours – 1/3 of their life – at work, and because of this, people want to work at places they enjoy. Study after study demonstrates that those who work in an environment where the company culture is positive and team-oriented (like #OneNaphCare) are four times more likely to stay with their current employer.

Also, a Harvard study demonstrated that people working in companies with a positive company culture are healthier, happier and more productive. A strong culture improves employee satisfaction, reduces stress and retains great employees.

How would you describe the team culture at NaphCare?

The team culture at NaphCare truly is “One Team, One Mission, One NaphCare.” Our culture is not just words, and that truly is important. I hear so often that NaphCare feels like a family and truly cares about our employees and our patients.

I have seen so many of our team members exhibit the #OneNaphCare motto, and now we have the Employee Engagement Team, who is focused on communicating directly with our teams about their experiences and how our culture reaches each site. Through the years, I have seen so many come together from various departments to work as one, support each other and mentor each other—all to improve employee experiences and ensure the best patient care.

What are some of the biggest challenges in maintaining or evolving the company culture, especially in times of change?

We are all human and accept change in different ways. Recognizing this and maintaining strong communication is key. I have seen leaders take time to meet with various groups to talk, guide and lead through change. Yet another favorite moment!

Describe the #OneNaphCare culture

At facilities across the country and across all roles, I witness daily the passion our employees have for what they do, the pride in their colleagues, and the support our team gives each other. This, to me, embodies the #OneNaphCare culture.
