NaphCare Proud to Partner with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to Achieve First-in-State NCCHC Mental Health Accreditation
October 26, 2022DAYTON, OH— On Monday, October 24, 2022, Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck accepted an Accreditation Award from Lee Harrison, President of Correctional Healthcare Partner, NaphCare Inc., acknowledging the Montgomery County Jail’s achievement in obtaining Mental Health Accreditation through the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).
While the Montgomery County Jail has maintained NCCHC Accreditation since 2001, this independent mental health survey is relatively new and only a small number of programs have achieved it nationally. Sheriff Streck will have the first jail in the State of Ohio to secure the award. Sheriff Streck was joined by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, State Representative Phil Plummer and Montgomery County Probate Judge, David Brannon, who each acknowledged the increasing mental health concerns among residents involved in our criminal justice and probate systems.
“This specialized accreditation not only means better care for inmates at the Montgomery County Jail but also a likely reduction in in-custody tragedies,” Yost said. “The hard work of Sheriff Streck and his staff raises the bar for all Ohio jails. I encourage jail administrators throughout Ohio to follow Montgomery County’s example.”
“We are incredibly proud of NaphCare’s team in Montgomery County for going above and beyond to ensure our patients receive proactive, evidence-based mental health care,” said NaphCare’s Chief Psychologist Amber Simpler, Ph.D., ABPP. “Our partnership with Sheriff Streck and his team make this advanced level of care possible in the Montgomery County Jail. It takes all of us working together to meet the needs of this vulnerable population for the betterment of the local community.”
Sheriff Rob Streck is the lead for Montgomery County’s Stepping Up Initiative. This is a national program targeted at reducing the number of people with mental illness in jails. Sheriff Streck notes that securing this accreditation supports action plans identified through the State of Ohio’s Stepping Up Project.
